57 Year Old Widow Income Tax Question

My husband passed away in July 2011, he was 67, he was collecting full social security and unemployment.

I do not work am I required to file taxes at the end of the year. We always filed a joint return in the past.

My elderly Grandmother has put my father on her banking account, and I believe he may owe back taxes, can the IRS put a lien on her account for his back taxes?

How IRS Liens Work

The IRS generally cannot place a lien on an account solely based on the fact that someone owes back taxes unless your grandmother is jointly responsible for those taxes. If your father is solely responsible for the debt, the IRS would typically pursue actions against him individually.
