Is private-pay in-home care for the elderly deductible?
It isn't personal care; just companionship.
Is lap-band surgery deductible as a itemized medical deduction allowed? Full cost of surgery was paid by myself including cost of air fair to get to place of surgery.
Payment was made by wire transfer to an account in California and surgery was performed just over the border in Mexico.. does that matter?
I am obese, have heart problems, and diabetic and it was to help myself since my insurance would not help me with any of the cost.

Our employer extends the facility of Mediclaim Policy for retired employee. 80% premium is paid by retiree and balance by the employer. Employee pay the premium to employer and further on behalf of retiree pay the premium to insurance company.
My question is whether retiree can claim deduction on this account?. However, the employer did not issue any receipt for the amount paid by retiree only common receipt is prepared by the employer.
