Charity Income Tax Deduction

My mom made a $600 donation to a Catholic charity. Technically she did receive something in return, prayers being said for a loved one.

With this 'something in return' being intangible and of a spiritual nature.

I was wondering if the $600 could still be claimed as a deduction for a charitable donation on her taxes?

If you give $10,000 to your child, your child does not have to claim this money as income, therefore you cannot deduct it from your taxes.

Thank you for your deduction for charitable contributions question.

When using form 1040, you would want to list your and deduct both your cash and non-cash charitable donations as an itemized deduction on your Shedule A.

Make sure that you have receipts to help support your deduction.
